As the design system lead, I own and maintain Plexi, Google Business Design System, evolving it from a legacy Google Ads centric design system to support multiple product pages as part of web consolidation across 41 products. As part of my responsibilities, I advocate for the design system among marketing stakeholders and external agencies to ensure brand consistency across new landing pages and custom product pages. I also collaborate with the creative content team to keep the system updated with modernized branding, and work closely with engineering to ensure its seamless integration and adoption.

Currently, I'm leading the effort to tokenize our design system, increasing its scalability, measurability, and adaptability. The work includes defining design hierarchy and translating core design decisions into a standardized set of reusable variables or tokens.

Plexi lives in a figma file where everything from our design foundations to modules live. Management of the design system includes updating components, guidelines, and documentation to ensuring design consistency across existing and incoming web work.

I lead the work on tokenizing Plexi. The work includes:

- Auditing the system for any remaining gaps between design, eng, and CMS
- Setting up necessary tools and resources such as Carbon
- Defining governance and maintanability for clear process to manage changes and updates to the system
- Defining what tokens are needed and aligning on naming convention and hierarchy
- Creating reference, system, and component level tokens
- Migrating tokens to Google’s internal Design System manager, Carbon to sync tokens to design file and code
- Prepping the system to be AI toolkit ready
